Painted sculptures of Arabian horses will soon adorn the streets of Dubai as part of a public art and charity project named ‘Dubai’s Celebration of The Arabian Horse’. About 80 artists in the UAE and from around the world are painting and embellishing the exotic and beautiful 'white horse of the desert’.
The artists are involved in molding Arabian horse sculptures into unique works of art, which will then be showcased in a multitude of high profile locations.
The project culminates in a gala public art auction at the end of May 2005, with the proceeds going to children’s charities and for the development of art and culture in Dubai.
Patricia McGourty Palmer, Managing Director of ArtWorks said: “Arabian Horse is the classic symbol of one of the region’s most noble animals. It is our way to contribute towards the development of art and the cultural scene of Dubai.”
An award winning costume designer in America, Palmer, who has been living in the Middle East since 1985, was also the artistic force behind the success of the Camel Caravan project, which raised thousands of dollars last year.
Among the artists at work at Children’s City at Creek Park was Barbara McGivern an artist from Toronto, Canada, whose ‘Red Fantasy’ was adorned with gold. |
